چکیده

For a binary outcome Y, generated by simple threshold crossing model with single exogenous normally distributed explanatory variable X, the OLS estimator of coefficient on X in linear probability is consistent average partial effect X. Even this very setting, we show that when allowing for to be endogenously determined, 2SLS estimator, using instrumental Z, does not identify same causal parameter. It instead estimates scaled Z first-stage denoted ?1, or equivalently, it population predicted value Z?1. These parameters can differ substantially as normal Probit model, which implies care has taken interpreting estimation results model. Under joint normality error terms, IV maximum likelihood The two-step control function procedure Rivers and Vuong also estimate parameter consistently, but double averaging needed, one over distribution V If performed V, then estimated equal 0, standard Wald test hypothesis correct size under strong instrument asymptotics. We that, general, weak F-test interpretations do apply setting.

ivtreatreg: a new STATA routine for estimating binary treatment models with heterogeneous response to treatment under observable and unobservable selection

This paper presents a new user-written STATA command called ivtreatreg for the estimation of five different (binary) treatment models with and without idiosyncratic (or heterogeneous) average treatment effect. Depending on the model specified by the user, ivtreatreg provides consistent estimation of average treatment effects both under the hypothesis of “selection on observables” and “selection...

The Spatial Probit Model of Interdependent Binary Outcomes: Estimation, Interpretation, and Presentation

Interdependence—i.e., that the outcomes in or actions or choices of some units depend on those in/of others—is substantively and theoretically ubiquitous in and central to binary outcomes of interest across the social sciences. Most empirical applications omit interdependence, however; even theoretical and substantive discussion usually ignores it. Moreover, in the few contexts where spatial in...

Multivariate Probit Analysis of Binary Time

SUMMARY The development of adequate models for binary time series data with covariate adjustment has been an active research area in the last years. In the case, where interest is focused on marginal and association parameters, generalized estimating equations (GEE) (see for example Lipsitz, Laird and Harrington (1991) and Liang, Zeger and Qaqish (1992)) and likelihood (see for example Fitzmaur...
